OPERATING EXTINGUISHERS

OPERATING EXTINGUISHERS JACK W. DAVIS EXTENSION SAFETY SPECIALIST

We come in to contact with fire extinguishers on a daily basis. You never know when you may need to know how to operate an extinguisher properly. It is best to familiarize yourself with location and operating procedures before the need for using the extinguisher arises.

Most fire extinguishers operate basically the same way:

       PULL the locking pin
AIM the nozzle at the bottom or base of the fire
       SQUEEZE or press the handle
SWEEP the extinguisher back and forth at the base of the fire until it
is extinguished or the extinguisher quits

Remember -- always read the directions on any fire extinguisher before operating. Some extinguishers may require a slightly different method of operation. Familiarize yourself with the extinguisher before a fire occurs so you will know how to use it.
