Scootworks NEW DETACHABLE mounting system supports saddlebags independently of the rear suspension, so saddle bags don't move up and down with the rear wheel. No more bouncing of your saddlebag contents with the rear suspension.
Our NEW DETACHABLE saddlebag mounting system comprises of 4 bracket supports (2 on each side). Small brackets mount SOLIDLY to your bike's frame on each side at 3 attachment points. The larger bag bracket is attaches SECURELY, to hold your prized saddlebags. The attachment bolts are easy to remove so that you can still show off your beautiful Drifter fender when the bags are not needed. You can easily re-attach your bags / bag brackets in a couple of minutes. No holes to drill, and no modifications are needed to your Drifter.
This bag mounting system was computer designed for an exact fit. The components were load simulated on FEPro (Finite Element Stress Analysis software) for load handling capability of 50lbs per saddlebag with a road noise of 10x (HEAVY bumping, worse than most can encounter in actual operation). They were tested in the field for over one year prior to initial release, with various modifications implemented to the design to improve stability, minimize flex while forcing heavy items into bags, and accommodate a wide multitude of accessories on Drifter motorcycles. These mounts _WILL NOT_ accidentally detach from the motorcycle when negotiating the roughest of terrain, nor will they flex and move about into the moving parts of your Drifter's rear suspension while under load. While this system is not "instantly removable", it is VERY secure, removes quickly while leaving the more difficult installation components in place, and won't allow your bags to be stolen by any passer-by!

Review-Drifter Saddlebag brackets - Cameron Mooney - RATING: 1
Although have fabrication background I decided to go the quick route and purchase Scootworks saddlebag brackets for the 800. I intended to mount some lightweight hard bags I got off of ebay on them. Scootworks had no bag recommendations. They claim to have sold millions of them without a complaint. (obviously the millions is an overstatement) They cost 179.95 plus shipping, but scootworks has free shipping over $200.00.
They arrived quickly and were carefully wrapped to avoid damage. They were black powedercoated 3/16 inch two piece mild steel brackets and come with stainless hardware They come with clear instructions for the single stock seat, two up, and corbin replacement seat
I have a stock single seat. The instructions stated it was a straight bolt-on. This was not true and my stock seat brackets required minor grinding (clearancing) for the extra 3/16 of metal between the frame and seat bracket now on each side. The right side uses the stock seat bolt locations and the muffler bracket location to bolt up to. The left side uses the seat bolts and has a small extra bracket that squeezes the frame on the lower part of the bracket. The brackets basically look like modified "C's". The second part of the bracket (the removeable part if you dont want the bags on the bike) bolted to the first without problems using (5) 1/4" stainless bolts. The bracket clears the swingarm nicely.
The brackets are rated to hold 50 pounds on each side but I never tested the capacity. After I bolted my bags on I noticed that the brackets flexed an inordinant amount... like a sail on the end of a pole. A call to scootworks tech line and I was advised I could buy a "luggage rack" for more money.. that bolted the two brackets together over the top of the fender... and that this would stiffen everything up. I didnt want to cover up the fender and didnt want to buy more product. The brackets are touted as going thru rigerous computer design and modeling for strength. I respectfully told Scoot that they were unacceptable in stock form. As an aside I also told them their powdercoater wasnt supplying the best coat possible and that it chipped too easily and appeared to be thin in places. I also told them you could see grinder marks through the coating.... ok on an off road bike maybe but not on a drifter cruiser. I made the suggestion that the bracket should be a heavier material... perhaps 1/4 inch. . and the trailing bracket needs a stiffener to keep it from twisting.
After a day or so of back and forth scoot agreed to take the brackets back stating I was the only person that ever complained about them. I found this hard to believe I cannot recommend these brackets to the forum.... they are not sufficient in lateral strength and vibrate all over the place. They will not safely hold saddlebags in my opinion.
One the DRF scale of 1-4 ... 4 being best.. these unortunately only rate a 1..... they need more R & D Save your money and make the brackets yourself
